HOT WEATHER: OUR TIPS FOR SLEEPING WELL
Ah the summer, the sun and the great heat. The thermometer can no longer go below 20 degrees at night and your sleep suffers. Don’t worry, here are a few tips to help you get back in touch with Morpheus.
N°1. BRING YOUR BODY TEMPERATURE DOWN:
In order not to overheat at bedtime, try to eat a light meal and give your body 2 to 3 hours to digest. Ideally, avoid foods that are too high in protein and fat, which require more energy from your body to digest them, thus producing more heat.
To prepare your body for a good night’s sleep, consider taking a shower with warm water shortly before going to bed. Why lukewarm? This helps to lower body temperature without shocking the body with ice water. Your body would compensate by making heat, which is not the desired result!
Focus on hydration! Drinking enough water is the key to helping your body regulate its temperature! Before going to sleep, avoid energy drinks or alcohol which have a dehydrating effect on the body. On the other hand, a large glass of water will allow your body to sweat during the night to lower body heat.
N°2. PREVENT THE MERCURY FROM RISING IN YOUR ROOM:
To help you fall asleep, maintain a comfortable temperature by opening the window wide at dusk. The morning and evening are the coolest times of the day and therefore conducive to a great airing. Also remember to close your shutters or lower your blinds to prevent the sun from heating your room. Not enough? The fan can come to save your nights in periods of great heat.
N°3. LIGHTEN YOUR BEDDING
If in the winter you are a fan of a large comforter, in the summer, prefer sheets made of natural materials such as linen or cotton that allow air to pass through. You can even dampen your sheets by spraying them with a little water. Evaporation will cool your bed and the room but be careful not to catch a cold!
